The allure but also violence of exclusivity is thematised in Scales (2022/23), which uses paint and plaster from walls to illustrate both these qualities. Whilst the colouring of the scales of plaster is rather beautiful, the staples holding them together suggest pain and injury and the often arbitrary and violent nature of borders. Where the scales hint at the disintegration and transience of walls, the staples suggest their impenetrability.
