Walls created by language are the subject of Excommunicate (2021/22) and Shekasteh (2023). Both works create a communication barrier. In the former, language is a vehicle of exclusion, concealment and obfuscation. Likewise, “Shekasteh”, which takes its title from the term Shekasteh Nastaliq (literally ‘broken’ Nastaliq), features a line of trapped and broken feathers that are suggestive of corrupted and illegible calligraphy.
