Khataee transforms carpet motifs, such as the Shãh Abbãsi flower, from two-dimensional decorative motifs into three-dimensional sculptures. Much of the floral patterns remain hidden behind white casings, further turning what tend to be highly visible elements of decoration into the usually more inconspicuous structural columns of a building.
